Opera Lecture with Ian Fox
Date: 2nd September
Venue: The Fitzwilliam Hotel
Time: 8pm
Rigoletto by Verdi
This was the first opera of Verdi’s “middle period” which produced his most popular works. Its combination of melodic richness and dramatic effectiveness has proved irresistible.
Samson et Dalila by Saint-Saëns
Because of its biblical subject, the opera was banned by the French Authorities and was first produced in Germany. A popular favourite in the world’s opera houses, it attracted many of the leading opera singers of the day.
