Held in the beautiful setting of The Irish Museum of Modern Art. Bernadette Greevy remembers:
When I was a very young singer I had the good fortune to be chosen by the BBC to attend a Masterclass given by the consummate musician Nadia Boulanger of the Julliard School New York, during a visit she made to London. She was a tiny old lady whose eyesight wasn’t too good, but her perfect pitch and wealth of musical knowledge was stunning. Her approach was formidable; she didn’t suffer fools gladly; she wanted good diction, clear sound and proper use of the vocal and physical equipment necessary to accomplish this. She demanded real commitment to the vocal work in hand and its presentation to the audience. She insisted on good deportment too! Everything was important in order to achieve what she perceived to be the complete performer. She sensibly advised that languages were also an essential element but could be worked on in time. It was a difficult but enlightening few days for me and I felt pretty exhausted at the end of it.
